Most HR Managers will say they have to go through hundreds if not thousands of resumes each year and rarely have time to scan over a cover letter. So are they really needed? A cover letter also gives you the opportunity to show off your personality and to express your personal strengths in ways a resume cannot. A cover letter should not simply repeat or summarize your resume rather it should complement it.
A cover letter also gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your attention to detail, your ability to follow simple directions, and your sincere interest in the company for which you are applying. Remember, an employer wants a need fulfilled and cares deeply about finding the correct person to fulfill it. If you show that you care enough to go the extra mile, you’ve already begun the process of building their trust and interest.
